The Weather is Bipolar!

We woke up today, a little tired but excited to see the city. There were blue skies and it felt warm. We had a nice breakfast of eggs and gf toast. Such yummy topping for our toast was Cloudberry Jam from the Artic, Caramel de beurre sale (Caramel Butter), and honey. Mmmmm...

As we were packing up to leave we saw some dark clouds in the distance. We asked if we should bring a rain jacket and at first Gill said, "No," but then we decided to bring them just in case. Good thing we did. By the time we got off the metro, we walked out into the rain. We were disappointed that photography was going to suck, but decided to just go to the Sacre Coeur anyway. We were ready to handle the pickpockets and people who try and put friendship bracelets on your wrist and demand payment. We just said no firmly and walked straight past them, being sure to not look them in the eye.

We got to take a fun funicular instead of walking up the steep steps.

It really starting raining and it was cold and Ally was tired so we almost gave up and went back home for the day but we thought we would try to see if lunch would perk us up. So we took the metro to the Eiffel tower. Except the train stopped 2 stations short and decided it was done for the day, so we got out to walk. It was nice though because we got to "walk along the Seine, laughing in the rain, our last summer....."

The we got a tease of the Eiffel before finding some lunch

French Onion Soup and Cobb Salad
We now felt re-energized and happy to see some blue skies peaking through and headed off to the Eiffel around the corner.

Oh No! The sky just went dark and got windy, lets try again tomorrow since it is supposed to be clear. So we start to walk away and it starts pouring.....now hailing!

This hail was collected in my hand after 10 seconds!
Wait, I think the train station is at the opposite side of the Eiffel. By the time we walk 100 feet back to the Eiffel, the sky is blue again! WTH? Should we do it? Yes, lets just do it, especially since the line is so short now! So we wait in line just 30 minutes and we are headed to the top. What a view!

My camera battery is getting low so we decide to head down. Within 2 minutes the sky goes black again, starts pouring and is so windy that the top of the tower is swaying!!! OMG! Unfortunately now everyone is waiting to get down. We get down to the 2nd level pretty quickly but the line down there is enormous. We decide we are just going to take the stairs, so we walk all the way down from the 2nd level, but it maybe only took 15 minutes. We would have waited 30-60 minutes for the elevator. it was actually kinda fun!

Finally at the bottom and what do you know? It is blue skies again!
I am convinced Mother Nature is Bipolar!

But we had a great day and enjoyed a wonderful dinner with our hosts Gill and Francois. They made a traditional fish soup from France which was similar to a cioppino, very delicious. Bon Nuit!

  1. Great post, weird weather (sort of high it rains so often in Hawaii and then before you know it it stops)...

So where you are at is at the same longitude is Canada here so you can see why it's still cold there. :-(
