I always wondered what the meaning behind the Red Eye flight, and now I know. I thought it would be perfect to fly at night so we could sleep on the plane to pass the time. Well, 7 hours into our 10 hour flight and what would have been 3am PST, Ally finally fell asleep for 45 minutes. Meanwhile with her legs sprawled out across my lap I just couldn't get comfortable enough to sleep. I looked in the mirror once we landed and saw how red my eyes were and wondered if this is how they got the term "red eye"? Once we got through customs and immigration and met up with our home exchange couple, I finally fell asleep for 20 min or so in the car. We have stayed busy this afternoon getting to know our exchange couple before they fly out to our house, took a walk to a park, and met the very nice neighbors. It was funny to listen to them giggle on our accents, apparently Ally has a very thick American accent.
Our most exciting experience today was learning how to drive on the opposite side of the road with a stick shift while driving on the opposite side of the car. What an experience? Besides thinking that oncoming traffic is going to hit you, the weirdest sensation is while parking and allowing enough space on the left side of the driver for the rest of the car. I think we will stick to the trains as much as possible :)
Overall we are safe and well and excited to start our journey, hopefully we will be able to get some sleep tonight, luckily it is already 9pm!
I remember when Dad and I took the "red eye" to Florida. It took us a day to recover and that was only 3 hrs time difference. Good luck!!!
