Oh Gaëlle, how we missed you!!

Today we checked out of our apartment and aparently I jinxed ourselves by making fun of our elevator in my last post because when we went to leave with all our luggage it was broken. So we had to walk down 7 flights of stairs that were very narrow and steep.

We made it on the bus and to the trainstation where we rented a car for the remained of our trip. We ended up with a four door Fiat 500. It should do fine. Navigating the roads was pretty easy with our GPS but had to google what some of the warning signs were saying. The freeways are often toll roads where you take a ticket and then pay as you exit. Our 1 hour ride cost 9 euros. We stopped at a rest stop market to get some cold drinks and discovered they do indeed have Dr. Pepper here, all is right in the world, lol.

We finally arrived at Gaëlle's house and had a beautiful lunch picked fresh from their garden and enjoyed their beautiful view.

Then we are on our way to a surprise weekend in Chamonix and the base of Mont Blanc in the alps.

We arrived at our grand hotel with 3 bedrooms and beautiful mountain views.

We have never stayed in such a fancy hotel where every guest gets a bathrobe and slippers

We are off to the pool and hot tub!

After a refeshing swim and showers we were ready to head out on the town of Chamonix and find an open market to get some things for dinner. Just a few sights along the way....

 After a lovely dinner we headed back to the main square where they were finishing up a rock climbing competion and celebrated with fireworks for their 14th of July (formally known as Bastille Day).

Their fireworks were amazing, was like our finale from beginning to end for a straight 15 minutes. C'est magnifique! We all pretty much speak franglish and seem to communicate pretty well and more vocabulary is coming back to me. Just putting them together in a proper sentence is the most difficult part. Bonne nuit!
